Financial Advising

Why Work with a Financial Advisor?

Most people are not financial experts, yet in today’s world individuals are becoming increasingly in charge of their own financial futures. Most are aware that thoughtful planning is critical, but don't have either the time, energy, or expertise to develop a plan, make needed financial decisions, and take the necessary action.

Maybe you have consulted with a financial advisor in the past...perhaps you felt you were being pressured or "sold".  Maybe you have seen the advertisements for online discount brokers like eTrade, Charles Schwab, and TD Ameritrade and wished that you could take advantage of their services, but weren't sure where to begin.  At CFS we aim to eliminate these concerns and ensure that you receive objective advice and assistance personalized to your unique situation.

Traditionally, there have been two options for financial planning -- go it alone or to pay a commissioned broker for advice and assistance.  Our purpose is to serve as a "happy medium" between these two options, providing you with investment control and cost savings along with professional and unbiased advice and assistance.

Our Advantage

Advisor Independence

Our financial advisors work strictly on a fee-for-service basis so you only pay for the time and/or services you use. Advisors do not accept any commissions, sales charges or third-party sales incentives on investments or products recommended, so you know your getting honest and impartial assistance.

Our independence grants advisors the freedom to research and recommend any investment product available that may be suitable for your unique situation (including those with lower fees, which can save you money). In fact, our service fee is often less than the sales load paid on just one mutual fund purchased through a commissioned broker.

There are thousands of investments available without commissions or sales charges, keeping more of your money working for you.  An advisor can help you locate and purchase the best investments for your situation at the lowest cost possible.

No Sales pressure or Conflicts of interest

Unlike many financial advisors, we are not here to sell you investment products. This eliminates the common “sales pressure” feeling, and ensures that you receive only appropriate advice, free from any conflicts of interest, and often at a lower overall cost.  There are no conflicting loyalties between what is good for your advisor and what is best for you, just unbiased research and recommendations on the broadest range of investment products possibible.

Our fee structure also allows us to work with you on issues that may not involve purchasing investments, like household budgeting, life insurance reviews, or general financial education.  You can rest assured that we will approach these topics with your best interests in mind, not with the intent to sell you something.

No Minimum account requirements or Long term contracts

Advisors are available to assist anyone with financial questions or concerns, regardless of  their income.  There are no net worth, investment, or minimum account balances required.  There are also no long term contracts or ongoing services required.  You determine the level of assistance you require, and there is no pressure to purchase additional services.

Free Consultation

THERE’S NOTHING TO LOSE!

Everyone is entitled to a free, “get acquainted” consultation prior to signing up for any services.  During this session, you will have an opportunity discuss your current situation and questions or concerns you might have.  Then an advisor will outline possible courses of actions and services that would meet your needs. You will also be provided with an estimate of total service fees. If at the end of this session you choose not to pursue any of the solutions outlined, there is no future obligation.

Services Provided

The process begins with a no-charge, no obligation “get acquainted” meeting where you can discuss your current situation, questions and concerns.  At the end of the meeting, your advisor will make recommendations on which services would best meet your needs, and also will provide you with an estimate of total costs.

Among the ways we can help our clients:

  • Offer one-time, periodic or ongoing personalized financial or investment advice.
  • Provide unbiased research, information and education on a broad range of products and investments.
  • Give a second opinion on current portfolio design and asset allocation.
  • Design one module or a complete financial plan.
  • Provide financial checkups, periodic reviews and plan updates.
  • Create a step-by-step plan of action for do-it-yourselfers to implement on their own.
  • Assist with plan implementation (at the client’s request).

We can help with specific financial objectives that can include:

  • Ensuring retirement income.
  • Reducing tax burdens.
  • Minimizing the effects of inflation.
  • Planning for education expenses.
  • Creating and preserving personal wealth.
  • Maximizing wealth transfer.
  • Reducing the risk of financially devastating events.
  • Fostering peace of mind through proper planning today.

To help achieve these goals we offer the following services:

  • Comprehensive Financial Plan:  A comprehensive financial plan gathers your current financial information for review, creates a snapshot of your current position, outlines your future plans and goals, and creates specific recommendations and actions to help you achieve those goals.

Areas covered include: current financial position (net worth, balance sheet, cash flow), asset allocation, insurance coverage, budgeting, general savings and investments, specific goal savings (education, house, etc), retirement income planning, estate review, and tax saving strategies.

Modular Financial Plan:  A modular financial plan is similar to the comprehensive plan, but focuses on only one area of your financial life (i.e. retirement savings).

  • Hourly Financial Advising & Assistance:  Hourly advising is available for those clients who do not need the full scope of a complete financial plan (i.e. those who have a few questions on one topic, need a second opinion on their current plan, or simply prefer the fee structure of hourly billing).

Financial seminars for military, church and civic groups, as well as corporate employee financial education (seminars on 401(k)’s, employee benefits, etc) are also available on an hourly basis.

Because financial planning is a process, not an event, we offer ongoing services, periodic reviews, and day-to-day consultations as requested or needed.

  Planning & Advisory Fees
